The MEX Maintenance Software Queensland Rally Championships kicked-off on Friday with grey skies and muddy tyres at the Nambour Showgrounds.
For the first event in the Queensland Rally Championships calendar, the competitors were keen to test their vehicles and iron out any bugs in the soggy conditions.
In front of hundreds of die-hard rally fans, the MEX sponsored cars, driven by Marias Swart and Ross Cox, made the most of their practice time by figuring out the faults in their respective gear boxes. After a few run-throughs they both decided to call it a day and head back to their workshops in preparation for the official races on Saturday and Sunday.
During the media events on Friday, our Facebook competition winners, Anthony and wife Sheree both enjoyed rides in their favourite team’s rally cars.
“We’d just like to thank MEX for the opportunity to come down to the Queensland Rally, and for supporting such a great event,” Anthony said.
The weekend saw the VW Polo S2000 team of Swart and McConkey place a very respectable 3rd overall, and the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 team of Cox and Swinbourne placing 9th. Congratulations to the MEX sponsored drivers and vehicles.
The next event, The Gallangowan Rally, kicks off on the 21st of July at Gallangowan.
