MEX Hosting Secured for CPU Vulnerability

The year started off with a scramble to solve a CPU vulnerability issue that posed a major security threat. This vulnerability was discovered by Google’s Project Zero team in 2017 and had the potential to allow malicious actors to take advantage of a CPU’s “speculative execution” technique to help optimise its performance, allowing these actors to read system memory that they should not have access to.

These vulnerabilities affect many CPUs, including those from AMD, ARM, and Intel, as well as the devices and operating systems running on them. Leaving open pretty much all devices and data systems the world over.

To ensure that our hosting servers were protected, The MEX Hosting team were quick to secure all of our servers and worked extensively with the Microsoft Azure team to ensure that any patches required were run on all our servers and tested to ensure our customer data and system information were safe.

Here at MEX, we take hosting customer data very seriously and have put in place a number of monitoring and disaster recovery measures that are designed to ensure maximum protection and access. In the coming months stringent testing will be performed on these systems to ensure that all failovers work as they should and any flaws are identified and improved on.

Just like we do with MEX, working with our users helps us refine the product and services. Having worked with customers to improve performance on hosting last year, 2018 will be more of the same, working hand in hand with our user base to further improve hosting.
